Guernsey Mini/Youth Rugby Club is based at Guernsey Rugby Football Club at Footes lane and although it is run under the aegis of the Club and the Hampshire Rugby Football Club it is an entirely separate and self financing section. We are able to use the facilities (pitch, showers, kitchen and club rooms)
The aims of the club are to work with and complement the coaching of rugby in schools from 6 years to 18 years. We aim to foster a club spirit and camaraderie among the children taking part. They are all members of Guernsey Rugby Football Club and are made welcome within the Club house. We believe it is important to instal in the children the qualities of sportsmanship and team play that set rugby union apart from other sports.
We also aim to develop a list of away and home fixtures to sustain the interest of the children taking part. We have minimised the cost by subsidising the cost of travel.
All the head coaches of each age group have rugby football union coaching qualifications and courses are continuing with the rugby development officer.
Coaching takes place on Sunday mornings from 9.15am to 11.00am during the season for age groups U7 to U12 (Mini’s) and 11.00am to 1.00pm for U13 to U17 (Youth). The canteen is open during these times offering hot food and drinks.
The rugby football continuum is followed with children placed in school years starting from Year 2 that is age 6 in the September and will be 7 by the following August.
Each player is taught the basic skills of tag and rugby. Each session will often end with a friendly game!
